The Energy of the Place Will Carry You!
When I started working at the front desk at the Innisfil YMCA in September 2011, I thought it might be fun. I thought that I would work side-by-side with some inspiring people, and perhaps become more involved in my community. Well, the past two years has been all of this and much more! My life has been changed forever by my experiences here, and now this this mother of three, is going to beautiful Tofino, BC for three weeks to complete her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. And thanks to a $1,000 YMCA Educational Grant, I feel that my future is being nurtured by the Y every step of the way.
At work, each day, I try to keep the values, the impact, & the scope of the Y on my mind at all times. This approach breathes life into repetitive tasks like cleaning, processing paperwork or teaching (another!) fitness class. Try reading the YMCA Canada website in your spare time. If your association CEO writes a blog, find out what is he/she is thinking about. And when there are learning opportunities offered, be the first to sign up! When you succeed, we all do. And as I always say to new members who are hesitant about coming into our health, fitness and recreation centre, “All you have to do is just get in the door. Then the energy of the place will carry you!”
