Trish – YMCA Employment Specialist

My Journey with the Y started when I was 15.  I gained employment at a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor with the Cambridge YMCA.  This was one of my first “real jobs.”  It was in the Y environment that I made the decision to become a Social Worker. I saw helpful hands everyday and wanted to continue to be a part of that.  I left the Y to pursue my education.  Many years later, my husband and I found ourselves in a difficult situation financially and was not sure how our kids were going to continue with their sports.  The Y’s jump start program made this possible.   Around the same time my husband found himself unemployed and not sure what to do.  He sought out the assistance of the Employment Resource Center in Midland and was assisted in gaining entry into the second careers program, where he competed his Web Design Diploma.  Now, after my company closed, I find myself back in the Y family working as an Employment Specialist with Youth Services.  Being back has reminded me what it meant to me to work with such great people and for a great agency.  I am reminded about the importance of enjoying what you do.  I look forward to continued success and growth.
